Blasting

The blasting process is a post-process step used in preparing the parts or products for the finishing processes after 3D printing. The technique is similar to sandblasting, however in 3D Printing variations of glass beads or other blasting media are used. The type of blasting media combined with blasting pressure depends on the functional and mechanical properties of the parts or products, the material, and the down-line finishing requirements.

Once the parts are removed from the build chamber of the 3D printer and the powder is removed, usually using compressed air, the surface is then blasted to eliminate all un-sintered powder that is left over after the cleaning process.

This achieves a raw finish which is slightly rough for the SLS and MJF parts.
